Happy holidays

We're late on wishing you a happy Thanksgiving, but may the rest of the winter season be filled with warmth, family, friends, and most importantly, rock.

Love,
Grant, Steve, Jason & Audie

This Friday, 10/17 in San Jose

Those of you in the South Bay (and perhaps even those of you in other parts of the Bay with working automobiles) have a chance to see us at the fabulous South First Billiards in San Jose again this weekend. We're playing with New Agents and Powder Train, and the last show we played at S. 1st was one of our best, according to totally non-biased people in the crowd.

As always, we're working on new songs, including some new covers that might please you, so come out and see another unique Farewell Typewriter experience.

SF, we missed you

Has it really been three months since we played in San Francisco? Jeez. Well, fret not, my pets, because we'll return Tuesday, Aug. 12 to the city that never sleeps. Wait, that's a different city. The city where everyone smokes pot and you can't ever find a parking spot and liberal commies run everything? Is that San Francisco's catch phrase?

In any case, we're playing there for what might be the only time this month tomorrow night, at the Rockit Room in the Richmond district. We're headlining Tuesday night's installment of the International Pop Overthrow festival, a multi-city showcase with events in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Portland, Liverpool and more. It will be fun. We will make it so.

Tues., Aug. 12 @ 8 p.m.

Two San Jose shows: 7/26 & 8/1

We're gracing San Jose with our presence twice in the next couple of weeks. The first of these shows is Sat., July 26 at the Britannia Arms Cupertino (technically in San Jose) and the second is Fri., Aug. 1 at South First Billiards.

We're headlining the Brit show, so we'll be on relatively late (midnight-ish) and quite possibly intoxicated. This could be interesting.

The Aug. 1 show is unique: local artist and friend-of-a-friend Lacey Bryant will be painting live while we play. Sounds strange and wonderful.

We shall return to San Francisco and other regions in August and beyond...

End radio silence

Well, it's been quiet around here the last month or so. Between out-of-state gigs with other bands, Hawaiian vacations, and ankle/foot injuries, we didn't rehearse much in June, let alone play any shows. But now we're back in action with a few shows on the calendar that should pique your interest.

We're playing this Friday, July 11 at Red House in Walnut Creek with Phoenix Ash (it's their CD release). This show is all ages and relatively early – it starts at 7:30 p.m. and we'll go on around 9 p.m. We've got some tickets to pre-sell, so contact us at info at farewell typewriter dot you-know-what to get tickets. There will be a limited number of admissions at the door.

Free all ages show at Stanford this Thursday, 5/29

Well, we didn't advance past the third round of the Emergenza Festival, but that's okay with us. Thanks to all of you who've come out to support us at these (and other) shows. Back to business now.

We're playing what we are 99 percent sure is is definitely a free, all-ages show this Thursday on the Stanford University campus. This should be a fun one because we'll get a little bit longer set than you may be used to and you can purchase and eat a crepe while we play.

Thursday, May 29 @ 8 p.m.

Directions to the Old Union (adapted from this page):
Old Union is located across from the Stanford Bookstore and near Tressider (the student union). The best bet for parking is the Tresidder lot.
From Campus Drive East, turn onto Mayfield (The Row) toward campus.
If you're coming from Junipero-Serra/I-280, you want to turn left onto Mayfield and if you're coming from El Camino Real, then you should turn right.
Mayfield will make a left, and then take an immediate right onto Lagunita Drive.
Parking will be to your right, and Old Union is straight ahead through White Plaza.

We need your vote this Sunday 5/18 in SF!

We're playing this Sunday at Rockit Room in SF. It's the third round of the international Emergenza Festival, and if we proceed beyond this round, we'll get to play at the illustrious and historic Great American Music Hall in June. This is the last audience-judged round, so in order to advance we'll need to be one of the two three bands (out of seven or eight) to receive the most votes by audience show of hand after our set.

The show starts at 8 p.m., but we play at 10:30 or so (parking can take some time and schedules change, so we recommend getting there early). Advance tickets are available from us for $10, so contact your favorite band member to save yourself $5 per ticket.

March sanity

We realize we haven't updated the site in a while, and we apologize for that. But frankly, we have more important things to do than update websites. Like, for example, rock people's faces off. But that's just one example. Here's some news-like tidbits:

1. Our next show is March 22 at the Britannia Arms Cupertino (which, oddly, is really in San Jose). We played here long ago, before Audie was in the band, and we think his presence will bring something special to the place. And by "something special," we mean "a tambourine." Show is 21+, $5, starts at 9 p.m. and we go on third.

2. We've made it onto the third round of the Emergenza Festival, a worldwide battle of the bands competition. Thanks to everyone who supported us during the first two rounds. If we advance after the next round (in May, date & time TBD), we'll get to play the local finals at the Great American Music Hall in June. That would be rad.

3. We've written, and are still writing, some new songs, some of which you'll hear at our shows, and which we hope to record sometime this year.

I'll leave you with this video of us from the first round of the Emergenza festival, in which Grant breaks a string at the beginning of the tune and switches guitars while singing the first verse. If nothing else, we're very good at covering our asses.

Happy 2008, show in SF on Thurs. 1/10

Happy new year from Farewell Typewriter. Our 2008 resolution? To rock people with greater intensity and frequency than we have in any prior year. We hope you're ready.

Let us begin making good on this resolution by inviting you to our show this Thursday at the Rockit Room in San Francisco. We play at 9:30 p.m. sharp, and immediately following our set, you can cast a vote for us to move on to the next round in the Emergenza Festival, an international "battle of the bands." If all goes well, we'll be recording in Sweden and touring with the Vans Warped Tour in no time.

Tickets are $10 in advance (contact your favorite band member or email us at info AT farewelltypewriter DOT com) and $15 at the door. And let not auld acquaintance be forgot. Whatever that means.
